R_volution NAS Ultra Rip Station Media Server Overview For serious collectors, the R_volution NAS Ultra is a compelling solution. It combines a powerful 8-bay NAS with a fully automated rip station and media server in one unit. As a result, you can back up your entire DVD, Blu-ray, 3D Blu-ray and 4K UHD disc library at the touch of a button. Crucially, no re-compression is applied — every soundtrack, chapter and subtitle is preserved in full. Furthermore, the NAS Ultra delivers 50% more processing power and runs 50% more quietly than the standard version. Ripping Backing up your collection is effortless. Simply insert a disc into the built-in optical drive and the NAS Ultra handles everything automatically. Once ripped, the disc is ejected and you can load the next one straight away. DVDs are stored in ISO format, while Blu-rays are saved as BDMV virtual discs. Consequently, the original image and sound quality is fully retained. You can also rip multiple discs simultaneously by connecting an optional external USB disc transport. Note: the rip function is compatible with approximately 95% of commercially available discs. Storage The NAS Ultra houses eight hot-swappable 3.5-inch SATA drive bays, supporting up to eight hard drives (sold separately). A single 16TB drive holds around 200 4K UHD Blu-rays, 400 Blu-rays or 2,400 DVDs. Scaling up is straightforward — additional drives can be added at any time. Moreover, multiple NAS Ultra units can be combined into a single unified system for truly vast collections. With all eight bays filled, the unit can store up to 3,200 4K UHD discs, 6,400 Blu-rays or an impressive 38,400 DVDs. Protection Your collection is protected by hardware-based RAID, with support for RAID 0, 1, 5 and JBOD configurations. RAID 5 is particularly well suited for home use. In the event of a drive failure, data is automatically transferred to a standby disk without any interruption to playback. Replacing a failed drive is simple and does not require the server to be taken offline. Additionally, hot-swap functionality means drives can be swapped one at a time while the system continues to operate. Streaming The NAS Ultra streams to up to four R_volution network players simultaneously, making it ideal for multi-room setups. Thanks to its high-performance 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet interface, it delivers speeds up to 2.5 times faster than the standard edition. Every R_volution player on your network detects the NAS Ultra automatically. As a result, accessing your full media library from any room is entirely seamless. Content can be paused and resumed across rooms, and films play from the opening scene without menus, warnings or adverts. Interface The R_video media centre application provides a rich, visually polished user interface running at 60 frames per second. It draws on a database of over 1,200,000 film titles and 2,000,000 CD albums to automatically retrieve cover art, cast details and metadata. For music, album artwork and artist thumbnails are collected in the same way. The interface is accessible from any connected R_volution player via your TV or projector. You can also manage files directly from a networked computer using a simple copy-and-paste function. Compatibility The NAS Ultra supports UHD, Blu-ray (2D and 3D), DVD and CD optical formats. It is compatible with 10/100/1000/2500 Mb/s Ethernet networks and operates on a 100–240 V, 50/60 Hz power supply. Please note that one or more R_volution network players are required to stream content. There are no audio or video outputs on the NAS Ultra itself.
